She has been around for well over 10 years now in Bollywood, has been a part of much acclaimed movies like ‘Ek Chalis Ki Last Local’, ‘Mithya’, ‘Dasvidaniya’ and ‘Phas Gaye Re Obama’ (2010) et al. But Neha Dhupia, Miss India 2002, feels that she has proved self over the years and is not answerable to anyone, especially critics. “I have been working in the industry for 10 years now and have constantly proved myself over the years with my work. I don’t understand why people keep asking me why I’m doing only one or two films a year. It’s totally my prerogative how much I want to work and what kind of movies I want to work in. I don’t want to associate myself with movies which people will forget in 1-2 years and that’s why I have been very selective in my work,” says Neha, who was in Ranchi on Wednesday for a professional engagement. Looking back, Neha feels that there has been a sea change in the attitude of people in terms of accepting ‘different’ kind of movies and appreciate the work of newer directors. “Jis tarah ki films aaj ban rahi hain vo genuinely different hain. Today, the script is the biggest star of the movie. And then, the nature of audience has also changed drastically. Now we have more educated people – many of them youngsters – who are willing to watch and understand different kind of movies, which was not the case earlier. It’s not like rom coms are not making money anymore but the movies like Dasvidaniya and Gangs of Wasseypur are also earning well,” the actress avers. In fact, she goes on to modify her most controversial statement till date. “The script has become so important now that I would like to amend my earlier stand that of ‘either sex sells or Shah Rukh Khan to either sex sells or Shah Rukh or the script now,” quips Dhupia. Apart from acting, Neha loves to travel a lot and is happy that her modelling and other engagements keeps her on move all the year around.
