Light-emitting diode (LED) lights will be installed in major cities in an effort to overcome the prevailing energy crisis in the country.
The energy efficient LED lights have been manufactured by National Institute of Electronic (NIE).
During his visit to NIE, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid said, “Efforts should be made for the promotion of Science and Technology and its projects should be result oriented and productive for the people.”
NIE Director General Zafar Iqbal Khokar briefed the minister on the organisational structure, objectives, achievements and issues related to the organisation.
The minister said, “The government, planners, policy makers and government functionaries realise the increasing importance of technological knowledge and its implementation in the economy.” He stressed that Research and Development (R&D) products should be commercialised through public-private manufacturing sectors.
The minister also visited various labs of the institute, including power electronic lab, communication lab, pilot production lab of electronic products, PCB fabrication facilities and quality testing lab.
Furthermore, he visited the Technology Centre of National Electronic Complex (NECOP), a joint project executed by NIE and NESCOM with Technical and financial assistance of China. He appreciated the efforts of the workforce for bringing into practical shape the essential building blocks of any production unit comprising R&D labs, PCB fabrication, production line and testing facility.
He encouraged the institute to come up with more meaningful and intensified achievements in the areas of indigenous technology development and product development along with efforts for joint ventures with national and international partners, to increase the production capacity and meet the demands of the quality conscious markets.
Federal Sectary of Science and Technology Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar was also present on the occasion.
