As many as 1,243 gastroenteritis patients have been brought to three hospitals of the garrison city since the beginning of Ramadan.
A total of 447 patients suffering from gastroenteritis were brought to Holy Family Hospital, 390 to Benazir Bhutto General Hospital and 406 patients were brought to District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Patients receiving treatment from private hospitals and clinics are not included in the toll.
Doctors sent home 91 patients after administering treatment to them, while 57 were hospitalised.
Health Department has advised the people to adopt precautionary measures as monsoon season is at its peak and spread out of epidemics is on the rise. The health authorities said that a workshop for awareness among the people regarding health related problems is going to be held shortly.
Meanwhile, patients have complained about insufficient and poor treatment facilities in government hospitals of Punjab. They urged the health department and chief minister to take steps and improve the health care system.
