The Supreme Court on Thursday suspended the assembly membership of PTI’s Ghulam Sarwar for having a fake degree until a final verdict was given in the case.
During the hearing of the fake degrees case, the three-member bench, chaired by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, noted that even the Higher Education Commission had declared Sarwar’s degree suspicious, and the university syndicate had also deferred its verdict over the issue.
Sarwar’s legal counsel, Salman Akram, informed the bench that his client’s case was sub-judice, and the SC had already held four hearings.
Ahsanuddin Sheikh said, “Sarwar had presented his diploma, which was converted from diploma of associates… even that was later negated by him personally, as he submitted his Rawalpindi diploma instead of Faisalabad diploma, both of which were fake.”
Among other fake degree holders such as Khawaja Muhammad Islam, Mir Badshah Khan Qaisarani has also been declared ineligible, with action to be taken against them under criminal act.
Verdict in Faiza Hameed’s case had been reserved by the Supreme Court, as it summoned university record of educational degrees of Zeb Jaffar.
Degrees of MPA Muhammad Nawaz had been verified and would thus no longer be reviewed.
