Funeral prayers of an innocent taxi driver, who was shot dead by Rangers personnel on Tuesday for not stopping the vehicle, was offered this morning in provincial metropolis, while an FIR has been registered against four paramilitary men.
Mureed, a taxi driver and lone earner for his family, was killed near Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
Reports said that Rangers personnel beckoned to stop the taxi-driver, who was on his way to the market along with his son to take edibles for iftar; but the Rangers, finding no compliance, opened fire that killed the driver on the spot.
The driver’s wife lodged a murder case against the Rangers personnel. At which, police arrested four of the Rangers men.
Police registered a murder case against the Rangers personnel on the report of the deceased taxi driver’s wife and arrested Lance Naik Ghulam Rasool.
Talking to a private television channel, the wife of the slain driver said that her husband had gone to buy fruits for Iftari along with his young son. The wife of taxi driver said she did not know how she would survive without her husband as there was no one to support her.
On the other hand, DG Rangers Sindh Major General Rizwan Akhtar had taken notice of the killing of taxi driver by paramilitary personnel.
Rangers’ spokesman said the DG, while taking notice of the incident, had suspended Company Commander. The authorities concerned have taken all the four personnel into custody. He had also ordered strict action against the Rangers personnel involved in the incident.
