The Chinese contractor building the mega Neelum-Jhelum hydro-power plant has decided to deploy more engineers and technical staff to speed up work on 969 MW project.
China Gezhouba Group of Companies (CGGC) Vice-President Deng held talks in Beijing with the Pakistani side and briefed them on the deployment of the additional Chinese workforce to help complete the project before time.
The meeting was held after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif concluded his visit to China
While travelling on a high-speed train from Beijing to Shanghai on July 6, Nawaz had met with CGGC Executive President Yang Yisheng where he was briefed on the progress of the hydro-power project.
Yang informed Sharif that the project’s expected completion was in June 2016. However, in view of the acute energy crisis, the Pakistani PM wanted it to be completed earlier.
Before embarking on visit to China, Nawaz visited the project site and directed the authorities concerned to expedite construction work on the 274.882 billion rupee project in order make it functional by 2014-15.
During his 5-day official visit to China, Nawaz met with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and the heads of a number of Chinese companies in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. These companies dealt in energy, infrastructural development, power distribution and financial services.
