Walkthrough gates installed at eight entry points of Sector H-9 Sunday Bazaar for security purposes have not been operational, speaking volumes about the security arrangements by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

A stallholder at the bazaar said that the gates were non-functional and there is no proper security mechanism at entry and exit points. “Walk-through gate installed at entry point six has now been removed and there has been no enquiry about it,” he said

Shazia Chaudhry, a customer said, “This is the busiest bazaar because of the discount rates offered by vendors but there was no proper security arrangement.” She was of the view that public security should be of utmost importance to the government and security arrangements should be beefed up.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA)’s spokesman Malik Saleem reserved his comments over the issue and forwarded contact number of CDA Director Public Relations Aafia Gul.

Aafia Gul said, “Walk-through gates were installed by Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police and it is their responsibility to look after them and not the CDA.”
