Raids conducted, 34 profiteers fined

Under a special campaign launched by the city district government against profiteering and hoarding, strict action is being taken and raids being conducted by the price control magistrates.

Acting on the directives of District Coordination Officer (DCO) Talat Mahmood Gondal, Additional Commissioner General Muhammad Ali Randhawa conducted raids at 50 shops in Chaklala Scheme, Commercial Market and Gulraz Housing Society.

Eight profiteers were fined up to Rs 16,000 while seven cases were registered under Price Control Act against profiteers. Raids were also conducted in various other markets and as many as 26 profiteers were heavily fined up to Rs 45,000.

The DCO said that the campaign would continue till the end of Ramadan to ensure the provision of essential items at fixed rates. Strict action is being taken against profiteering.

He also said that steps are being taken aimed at providing relief to the consumers particularly during the holy month.
