Despite strict directions of the district administration, shopkeepers and vendors at the Fruit and Vegetable Market have not displayed rate lists and have reverted to over charging customers.

A customer Mazhar Abbas while visiting a market in Sector I-11 said, “No official of the concerned department bothers to check this violation and as a result brawls among sellers and buyers has become a routine.”

Speaking about security arrangements he said that the district administration has time and again instructed police officials to ensure foolproof arrangements by installing walk through gates but only one or two cops are deployed for the purpose.

Ijaz ul Haq, resident of Sector I-10 complained of poor security arrangements and said, “I have not seen a single policeman deployed for security purposes although a police station has been set up right around the corner of the market.”

A vendor Jahangir Khan said, “There was no entry schedule of trucks and other vehicles to unload goods. Trucks enter any time causing traffic problems for the people.”

A large number of unauthorised kiosks and repairing shops have been set up around the market. When contacted, District Administration and CDA officials said that they are striving hard to ensure that the directives are met and security arrangements are enhanced.
