PHF buries the hatchet

The Pakistan Hockey Federation after the poor show of the national team in the Hockey World League have make minor changes in the team management  and with that development, Tahir Zaman has been brought in place of Hanif Khan in the coaching panel.

The decision was taken in a closed door meeting of the PHF top brass here at the PHF headquarters on Monday. Now the coaching panel will line up the national team for prepare them for the upcoming Asia Cup on July 21 at the National Hockey Camp.

Talking to journalists here at the PHF offices, PHF secretary Asif Bajwa said that a particular group of people is working against the federation and instead of encouraging the players they are discouraging them. “Their main aim is to see the team go down in every sphere of the game. The team will for achieving its target would enter the Asia Cup with full force,” he added.

Bajwa further stated that changes in the team management have been brought after detailed discussions with the PHF president Qasim Zia. “Hanif has great contribution for the game which should be recognized and his input for the development of the sport will be taken at every step.

“But a group of three persons is conspiring against the federation and hockey alike. No one has in the past listened to their self-centred approached and this time too no one will listen to them,” he added.

Bajwa further stated that he has asked those people to give their suggestions if they have for the uplift of the game and stop spreading disappointments.

“Our main target is the 2014 World Cup and for that the national team have to win Asia Cup for a place in the mega event and the team will go all out to win the title and a place in the World Cup,” he maintained.

The training camp of national senior probables preparing for participation in the 9th Men’s Asia Cup – IPOH/ Malaysia from August 24 to 1st September 2013 – will be established at National Hockey Stadium, Lahore on 21st July 2013.

“The Hockey World League had an easy way to qualify for the World Cup but the opportunity was wasted and now the PHF president after consultation with Chief Coach Akhtar Rasool appointed Tahir Zaman in the coaching panel to have positive results in Asia Cup,” said Bajwa.
