Outages during Sehri mock all claims of govt

Tall claims of the government for carrying out no load shedding during Iftar and Sehri seem to have fallen flat as several cities across the country including Karachi and Lahore were hit by power outages during Sehri on Sunday.

Various areas of Karachi, Lahore, Mardan, Multan and Swat among several other cities Sunday morning once again experienced unannounced load shedding during Sehri.

The authorities had claimed that power load shedding would not be carried out in Sehri, Iftari and Taraweeh timings, however, the real situation is the other way round.

In Lahore, outages were reported from Karim Park, Qasurpura, Ravi Road, Misri Shah, Chah Miran, Bhati Gate and Lohari Gate, much to the inconvenience of people during Sehri.

In Karachi, several areas including Ahsanabad, Gulshan Maymar, Sarjani Town, Buffer Zone, North Karachi, New Karachi, Gulshan Iqbal, Gulistan Iqbal and Malir remained without electricity during Sehri.

Power outages were also reported from Faisalabad, Khanewal, Chakwal, Renala Khurd, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Hayderabad, Mirpur, Swat, Shorkot, Jahangira, Mirpur Khas, Shahdadkot and Kohat.

Meanwhile, the power shortfall has mounted to 5,000 megawatts across the country.

According to the water and power ministry sources, current demand of electricity is 17,500 megawatt but the production is only 12,500 megawatt.

On Saturday, the power production mounted to 13,500 megawatt but on Sunday 1500 megawatts were produced less than the previous day, they added.

Currently, power demand in twin city is 1,500 megawatt but only 700 megawatt of the electricity is being supplied to the IESCO for Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The twin cities were facing 850 megawatt shortfall now, said the officials of water and power ministry.
