Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry into the increase of cost in the construction of Nandipur power project on Sunday.

The prime minister directed the federal secretary planning division to submit a report within three days, according to an official handout.

The directives of Nawaz stated that all dimensions of the matter be taken into account and the report be submitted after thorough scrutiny.

The prime minister, who is currently in Lahore, issued the directive following media reports pointing an increase in the cost of project from $329 million to $570 million.

The reports questioned the increase and claimed the additional funds would go to a certain private sector company.

The water and power ministry countered this by stating that the revised cost estimation was owing to a change in the price of individual items.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif called on the premier at Jati Umra where it was decided that the planning division would be called to resolve the matter.
