Kak Bridge road just needed a rain to crack

Residents of Model Town Humak, a rural area of the federal capital, have expressed concern over poor quality and inordinate delay in completion of the road from Swan to Kak Bridge.

They said the recent monsoon rains have exposed the faulty construction as the newly built road has started to break from various points.

According to a resident Zaheer, a lawyer by profession said that the work started six months ago and was scheduled to complete within three months of its initiation. He said, “Cracks have erupted on various portions of the newly built road after the recent rains, which speaks volumes of the quality being maintained by the contractor.”

Another resident Muhammad Afzal said, “A large number of vehicles remain stranded on the road due to poor traffic diverting strategy.” He said that heavy traffic has not been provided with specific alternative routes due to factories operating in Kahuta Industrial Triangle area. He also noted that there was a lot of work to be done including filling and raising the road, dealing with encroachers and setting up sewerage drains but the residents were not satisfied with the ongoing pace and quality of the work.

He highlighted that the road experiences heavy traffic at all times as one end leads to the Grand Trunk Road and the other links with Islamabad Highway. “It also links Azad Kashmir with other parts of the country,” he added.

The residents have urged the Punjab government to look into the matter and take action against those involved in delay and poor construction of the road.
