Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has constituted a special team comprising of magistrates, police officers and IESCO officials to arrest all those involved in power theft in the federal capital.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amir Ahmed Ali on Monday held a detailed meeting with the IESCO officers to ensure implementation of drive against electricity theft.

The worsening energy crisis has badly affected routine life and the country’s economy. The citizens are facing power outages of over 15 to 18 hours, while most of the industrial units have been shut down. The shortfall has reportedly reached up to 6,000 MW.

During the last five years, electricity theft and line losses amounted up to Rs 90 billion.

The DC directed the concerned officials to take strict action against electricity thieves.

Meanwhile, IESCO raided a house in Sector F-8/4 and arrested two persons involved in electricity theft, whereas two electricity thieves were arrested from Mehfil Hotel situated on Kashmir Highway.

They have been accused of stealing electricity directly from main electricity lines.
