Police on Saturday announced the death of the chief suspect in the Sajid Qureshi murder case while in their custody , The Crime Investigation Department (CID) did not however elaborate the events which led to his death, giving rise to doubts on part of the law-enforcers.
The accused had been arrested two days prior to his death by the CID, along with five other terrorists, which the police said belonged to the blacklisted Lashkare Jahngvi outfit.
The suspects were nominated in around 30 murder cases, mostly with sectarian overtones. The arrested individuals were also said to be involved in the murder of Shiite scholar Prof Sibte Jaffar.
However, other sources stated that the death of the accused Muhammad Farhan had been due to torture at the hands of the CID.
The police however stood their ground by not providing details which led to the death of said individual, stating merely that all the accused had been arrested in relation to crimes of heinous nature.
