Labour and Human Resources Minister Punjab Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said on Thursday that special high-level teams had been constituted to visit Ramadan bazaars and monitor the prices of commodities across the province during the holy month.
Speaking to APP, he said that the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif had also assigned a special task to the provincial cabinet, directing all districts to conduct a series of surprise visits to check the prices of fruit, vegetables and other edible items in Ramadan bazaars and other markets.
He said that all divisional commissioners, district coordination officers and assistant commissioners had been categorically directed to check overcharging as it would not be tolerated, especially during the holy month, and culprits caught doing so would be taken to task.
Sarwar said that labour officers at the district and tehsil level have also been directed to check the weights and scales of shopkeepers and fine those found to be breaking the law. He said it has been fully ensured that the price list of all commodities would be displayed conspicuously. Only quality and hygienic items should be brought for sale.
