Pakistan women’s biggest win in terms of balls

Pakistan women recorded their biggest win in terms of ball remaining by beating Ireland women by eight wickets with 180 to spare in the one-off one day international match at Moseley Cricket Club, Solihull on Wednesday (July 10).

After sweeping the Twenty-20 series 2-0, Pakistan Women comprehensively beat the hosts in the one day international match. Ireland Women painstakingly played out just over 40 overs, but failed to pass 100. Pakistan strolled to the target of 95 in half those overs, with Javeria Khan leading the way with an unbeaten 51off 61 balls with seven fours.

Ireland were struggling after being put in to bat, crawling to seven off as many overs, and losing their top three. Iram Javed, the right-arm seamer, accounted for two of those wickets, including that of the captain Isobel Joyce. Mary Waldron and Melissa Scott-Hayward added 31, the highest stand of the innings. The Pakistan bowlers held control, with Nida Dar, the offspinner, picking up 3 for 18 off 10 overs. Only three batsmen passed double figures, with Kim Garth’s 25 the highest score of the innings. Kim Garth, who hit three fours in her 60-ball knock, was the last one out with the score on 94in 40.2 overs.

The Ireland bowlers couldn’t quite apply the same pressure, as the Pakistan openers put on 42 in 1.2 overs. Lucy O’Reilly, the 13-year and 243 days-old allrounder and the second youngest international woman cricketer on debut, after Pakistan’s Sajjida Shah who was 12 years and 171 days old on debut against Ireland at Dublin on July 23,2000, struck by trapping Javeria Rauf leg before. Kim Garth then accounted for the wicket of Nahida Khan, but Javeria Khan and Nain Abidi ensured Pakistan coasted home by eight wickets.

Pakistan’s eight-wicket win was their joint second biggest in terms of wickets in one day internationals. Pakistan 9-wicket win against Ireland at Colombo on April 29,2011 is the biggest while their 8 wickets victory over the same opponent at Fatullah on November 15,2011 is the joint second biggest in women’s one dayers.
