National University of Modern Languages (NUML) arranged a two-day workshop starting on Wednesday on “Thesis and Dissertation Supervision” for the benefit of its faculty members about numerous research activities. Prof Dr Masood Ashraf Raja well-renowned arranged the event in collaboration with-University of North Texas (UNT). Speaking on the occasion, Ashraf said supervision of a master thesis or PhD dissertation in the US is a responsibility where the thesis director, supervisor or committee looks after the larger interests of the students carrying out the research. Ashraf while introducing the participants about the actual process of dissertation supervision at American universities said that a student’s role was to convince three members and a director to supervise his thesis. These three members constitute a committee and Director guides you to get your task accomplished in specific area. He said that workshop revolves around activities such as course work, selection of research, among others. Dr Raja said that in the US, any university worth its salt doesn’t let an external examiner interfere in its affairs. He further said that a supervisor prevents plagiarism at all in the university. An attendee, Management Sciences Departmen Assistant Professor Dr Naveed Akhtar, informed the meeting that the workshopt was a very useful tool to explain procedural applications.
