The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday disposed of the case pertaining to the fire that broke out in LDA Plaza on May 9 which killed 23 people.

The LHC Justice Syed Mansoor Ali heard the LDA plaza fire case.

During the course of proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer said that fire rescue workers of the Punjab Emergency Service had failed to rescue people trapped in the LDA Plaza when the fire erupted.

He said the Rescue 1122 was not properly equipped to deal with such situations.

He told the court that people trapped on top floors of the plaza had to jump from the windows because there were no long ladders. The advocate further said that the Punjab government has still not completed the inquiry over the matter and the government has assured that they will soon bring the culprits to justice.

The counsel for the provincial government apprised the court about the on-going investigation, saying that those responsible for the tragedy will be soon brought to justice.

Disposing of the case, the court allowed DG Rescue 1122 to work as chairman of fire safety commission, ordering to immediately arrest the culprits, adding that no one was above law.
