Dilapidated buildings in multiple localities, inhabited by middle and lower-middle class families pose serious threat to the lives of the residents.
A survey revealed that the majority of these dilapidated buildings are located in Raja Bazaar, Kaalan Bazaar, Moti Bazaar, Babra Bazaar, Bagh Sardaran, Dingi Koi, Ratta Amral, Purana Qila, Murree Road and Cantonment.
Muhammad Latif, the owner of one such dilapidated building in Purana Qila said that they have no resources to reconstruct the house in which they were living. “We would construct new houses if we have money. Most of the people living in old houses do not want to leave as these are their ancestral properties,” he said.
Another owner Nadeem, resident of Raja Bazaar said, “This is the property of my forefathers and I have great emotional attachment to this structure. I have no wish to leave this place
Meanwhile, city district government claimed that all arrangements have been completed to cope with the flood situation. Centres have also been established to provide relief to the flood stricken people.
