Allegedly fearing for their lives, drivers of containers loaded with returned logistics and supplies of the US-led allies, on Wednesday disappeared after abandoning their vehicles at the border town of Torkham.
Confirming the reports of the drivers’ disappearance, a Customs official in Torkham impounded the vehicles and apprehended three men, including employees of a private custom clearing agency, in this regard.
The official said drivers of all four vehicles left their vehicles in the parking area and disappeared during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Per details, four containers, loaded with military jeeps and mini-trucks, reached Torkham late on Tuesday evening. The drivers parked the vehicles to get clearance from the Customs Department for their journey towards Karachi. However, the department had shut down for the day so the process was adjourned until Wednesday (today).
When the official could not find the drivers on Wednesday morning, he brought the matter in the notice of the political administration.
Later, the he also impounded the vehicles and detained three men for further investigations. The detainees included two workers of a private customs clearing agency.
The official said efforts for finding the drivers, with help of transporters association and owners of the containers, were underway.
Local drivers and shopkeepers believe that the drivers of the vehicles disappeared after receiving threats from unidentified militants.
