Return of flamboyant all-rounder in the Pakistani squad for West Indies tour is highly appreciated, and people believe that he will perform better as the Caribbean conditions suits his style. Also cricket pundits believe that presence of Afridi will inspire men-in-green to put up a decent show against the World T20 champions, but Rashid Latif, former captain think otherwise. For him the return would only be beneficial for the all-rounder and will hardly prove valuable for Pakistani Team.

“Good for him (Afridi) that he was back in the team, but it will only benefit him, not the team, I am afraid”, said Rashid Latif in a statement.

Rashid Latif bashed at the selection committee and management for selecting Umar Akmal and giving him additional responsibility of holding the gloves. He said this decision depicts the negative mental approach of the authorities.

“Choice of Umar Akmal as wicket-keeper is a question mark on management’s mindset. We have other keepers yet promoting Akmal is just indigestible for me”, added Latif, who himself was one of the best wicket-keepers of his time.

“Even Kamran Akmal would not have been a bad choice. Since last few years he was mediocre behind the wickets but was kept in the side, now when he showed immense improvement, he was dropped, this philosophy is out of my mind at least”, added Latif

“Kamran Akmal’s batting performance is below par, but he has always scored at the top. Lately as a wicket-keeper I found him better than ever.” said Latif

On Pakistan’s chances in the West Indies, Rashid Latif said that the home side had been playing well lately, and to counter them, Pakistan have to perform exceedingly well. “West Indies have been playing well and it wouldn’t be easy for Pakistan, but my worry is that if Pakistan lose, then constituting a new team would be an uphill task for the management”, concludes Rashid Latif.
