Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Tuesday nominated two names for the post of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman.
Khursheed Shah recommended the names of Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza and Justice (r) Rana Bhagwandas.
A response letter containing the names was forwarded to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday.
The government had earlier recommended two names – Justice (r) Rehmat Hussain Jaffri and former federal secretary Khwaja Zahiruddin Ahmed – as suitable replacements for Admiral (r) Fasih Bukhari, who was removed from his post on Supreme Court’s directives.
Talking to reporters, Shah said the names for NAB chairman’s appointment – Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza and Justice (r) Rana Bhagwandas – have been sent to the PM.
Shah said the two people were the best choice for the top accountability body and nobody could raise objections over them.
He said the party had talked to the PTI and MQM to seek their opinion on the names, but no response was given from their side.
The Supreme Court had earlier expressed displeasure over the non-appointment of NAB chief despite court orders.
Admiral (r) Bokhari was removed from his post on May 29 after his appointment was declared illegal by the apex court.
