A Malaysian University has named its research institute after eminent Pakistani scientist Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rehman.

An official of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) said on Sunday that the largest university in Malaysia “Universiti Teknologi Mara” has named the research institute of natural products after Prof Atta-ur-Rahman. It will now be called “Prof Atta-ur-Rahman Institute for Natural Product Chemistry.”

Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar informed Prof Atta-ur-Rahman that this honour had been conferred in recognition of his vast contributions to the scientific world, particularly in the field of natural products and biological sciences.

This is a singular honour for Pakistan, the official of the HEC remarked.

He said Prof Atta-ur-Rahman had 910 international publications in several fields of organic chemistry including over 700 research publications, 26 patents, 116 books and 65 chapters in books published largely by major US and European presses.

As many as 77 students have completed their PhD degrees under his supervision.
