Jirga announces support to govt’s peace efforts in Khyber Agency

A tribal jirga of Bar Qambar Khel tribe of Bara Tehsil Khyber Agency in Peshawar on Sunday decided to extend unconditional support to the government for push forward peace efforts in the area.

Former federal minister Hameedullah Jan Afridi presided over the jirga.

The jirga decided that if someone was found to have any contact with militants‚ he would be fined Rs 6 million and could even face expulsion from the tribe.

The jirga also set-up a 15-member committee to establish contact with the government regarding peace efforts in the area.

On the occasion‚ Hameedullah Jan Afridi said that the displaced people of Tirah Valley would soon return to their homes.
