‘Thana culture’ knows no bounds!

Minister for Interior Nisar Ali Khan despite adopting measures to change the law and order situation in the federal capital has failed in changing the existing ‘thana culture’, which is creating problems for the citizens.

Station House Officers (SHO) in various police stations have influential backing and are enjoying custodianship for the last five years of their respective police stations. esultantly, citizens are facing multiple problems particularly while registering an FIR.

Imdad Ali, a native of Karachi was robbed of his mobile phone, ATM card and laptop from his flat situated in Sector G-6.

Talking to Pakistan Today he said, “I went to Aabpara Police Station for registration of FIR but Sub-Inspector Mansoor has been using delaying tactics for the last five days and which has forced me to seek court intervention.”

He complained that registration of FIR is a Herculean task in the capital but much easier in Karachi where crime rate knows no heights.

Out of the 18 SHOs employed in the capital most of them have a tainted record and have registered fake reports in the past.

A senior police official, on condition of anonymity said, “To bring visible change in the police department the interior minister should change the entire lot of SHOs. Upright and dedicated officers should be appointed in order to eradicate the ‘thana culture’.”
