Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) District President and Human Rights wing Member Sarfraz Raja said that the present economic stance and policies of the government are supportive towards industrialists rather than the poor.

During an exclusive interview, Raja said that the government is adopting the wrong path for uplifting of economy.

Elaborating further he said that government always tries to decrease the cost of production and to raise the purchasing power of the consumers but due to the recent budget and measures taken afterwards, indirect taxes have not only raised the cost of production decreased the purchasing power of consumers.

To a question he said that following a global recession the Americans are injecting $600 billion into their economies. However, a contradicted approach is being adopted over here.

He remarked that PPP has always implemented policies which were friendly to the poor but Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML) have supported policies tailor made for industrialists. He said that industrialists have always supported and funded PML-N.

Commenting over drone strikes and ‘Talibanisation’ Raja said that the present government has failed in stopping drone attacks and curbing extremist elements, despite the fact that it was at the top of PML-N’s election manifesto.

He said that all issues are directly related to the global war for oil and Americans are leading the war eyeing on oil and mineral reserves in Gawadar and Balochistan.

He mentioned that President Zardari announced to handover Gawadar to China and also struck a deal with Iran on Iran Pakistan Gas pipeline to keep Americans away from the region.

He was of the view that it took four years to negotiate with Iranians on the gas project including three and a half years for installing infrastructure to Taftan border, which reflects that the president was well aware of the oncoming energy crises.

Raja stressed that civil nuclear technology is the only solution to the current energy crises of the nation which was presented by former Prime Minister Z.A. Bhutto in the 70’s.

To a question the PPP leader rejected the claims made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for resolving all the issues of the country saying that it is not possible to redress the major issues without any proper ideology which Imran Khan lacks.

He added that the only solution to resolving the issue of terrorism is to strengthen the economy. Responding to another query, he said that PPP is here to survive for long as it bears a strong ideology.

Giving reason for the low popularity of PPP in Punjab he told that his party was kept out of power for 36 years which prevented PPP to deliver to the people.
