Pakistan claimed their first victory over England in any form of the women’s game with a nerve-jangling one-run win in the second Twenty- 20 match at Haslegrave Ground, Loughborough on Friday (July 5).

Having been comprehensively beaten earlier in the day, Pakistan fought tenaciously to defend what seemed a below-par total as Arran Brindle narrowly failed to steer England home when 13 runs were required off the last six balls.

Anya Shrubsole was caught off first delivery, as Bismah Maroof took responsibility for the final over, but they succeeded in getting Arran Brindle on strike. She halved the deficit with a blow for six but, with three needed to win off the last ball, Arran Brindle was run out attempting to come back for a second. The damage had been done earlier by Sumaiya Siddiqi and Sadia Yousuf, as England slid disastrously from 28 for 0 to 52 for 6 in 6.1 overs.

Pakistan women equalled their record of smallest victory in Twenty-20 cricket by winning the match by one run. It was second time when Pakistan women recorded a single run win. Their first one came against Indian women at Galle on October 1, 2012.

Pakistan women also equalled their record of highest innings total by making 116 for eight in 20 overs. They also scored 116 for five in 17.3 overs against West Indies at Providence on September 10,2011 and 116 for six in 20 overs against Ireland at Dublin on May 29,2009. Pakistan women’s previous highest against England was 87 for seven in 20 overs at Loughborough on September 4,2012.
