The management of Bait-ul-Sukoon, a cancer hospital, has urged philanthropists and civil society to help generate Rs 135 million for the year 2013-14 towards the cause of cancer by sponsoring patients as well as beds for at least one year.
Since its inception, 9,800 cancer patients have been treated, 8,900 have received chemotherapy, over 2,140 have had radiotherapy and over 1,690 surgeries have been performed. The cost per patient was approx Rs 500,000.
Bait-ul-Sukoon Trust Cancer Hospital established in 1999 as a cancer treatment center and hospital has become a modern 50 beds three-storey hospital equipped with mammogram, ultrasound and X-Ray facilities, and a modern diagnostic and pathological laboratory. The hospital building costing Rs10 crores including equipments, all fully funded, is situated at the Karachi Cooperative Housing Society.
Bait-ul-Sukoon has allocated each bed costing Rs 1,000,000 to donors. The bed would be occupied by the patients admitted for a full year.
The hospital provides surgical, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and supportive management services like blood transfusion, analgesic and nutritious support to economically challenged patients. It is the only hospice and hospital in Pakistan.
A strong support team consisting of renowned oncologists, general surgeons, breast surgeon, ENT/oro-facial surgeon, orthopedic surgeon and physicians are available along with a psychologist.
During this traumatic period of their lives, patients and their families require specialised care and personal attention which volunteers and trained staff provide at Bait-ul-Sukoon.
