Amid humor and satire, ‘Babunagar’ launched

Bazm-e-Akbar Allah Abadi and Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) arranged the launching ceremony of book “Babunagar” written by well-known humorist Hussain Ahmed Sherazi.

Anwar Masood presided over the ceremony while renowned nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan was the Guest of Honor. Safraz Shahid, Mian Nazeer Azhar, Dr Inam-ul-Haq Javed, Mian Siddique Akbar, Ghazanfar Hashmi, Abida Younus, Ayesha Masood and Farheen Chaudhry expressed their views on the occasion.

Dr Abdul Qadeer said that Sherazi has given a new dimension to humor in Urdu literature and if the story is read lightly it appears humorous but if read in a serious manner one finds it to be truly.

Anwar Masood said that the book provides details about the bureaucratic culture prevailing in our country while Abida Younas stated that Sherazi has exceptional command to portray the ills in different sectors of our individual and collective life.

Other speakers lauded the book and the writer for the exceptional humor it provides making the common man forget his worries for a while.

The book provides much needed guidance and awareness to the people about their social, psychological, economic and political problems in a very grin and conspicuous manner. It sheds light on the lives of people living in Babunagar-portraying the world of “Babus” and pointing out the real issues in a light manner.
The speakers referred to it as a masterpiece of modern Urdu literature.
