An accountability court on Friday awarded a seven-year jail term and a fine of Rs 370 million to Mushtaq Awan, PPP’s former senior provincial minister, in an octroi corruption reference.
The National Accountability Bureau filed the reference in 2001 wherein it was submitted that Awan had illegally awarded an octroi contract which had caused losses of millions to the Sheikhupura District Council.
After hearing the arguments, Lahore Accountability Court-IV Judge Azharul Haq Ali awarded seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 370 million to Awan. Later, the police arrested him from the court premises.
