The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday declared construction of CNG stations in residential areas as ‘illegal’.
The court was hearing a petition challenging construction of a CNG station in the residential area of AllamaIqbalTown.
Residents of the area had filed the petition, stating that a CNG station was being constructed on a land after changing its status from residential to commercial. They the commercialisation of the residential area by Lahore Development Authority (LDA) was also illegal. Petitioners requested the court to impose a complete ban on the construction of CNG stations in residential areas.
During the hearing, the court announced that under the LDA Act 1975 and the Local Government Ordinance 2001 commercial activities could not be carried out in residential areas.
