Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah has called for obtaining approval of parliament with respect to terms under which the recent loan has been acquired from the International Monitory Fund (IMF).

Talking to reporters outside the Parliament House on Friday, he said the PPP-led government allowed subsidy of Rs 1,400 billion on power, while the present government had increased the burden on public by taking back that subsidy.

He said the PML-N has deviated from its stance by taking the loan from IMF and had also increased the General Sales Tax (GST).

Shah said the PPP government returned $3.5 billion loan back to the IMF.

“The PML-N government should publicise the details of loans taken by the PPP government.”

“We left foreign exchange reserves of $4.5 billion dollars for the government, increased the exports from $18 billion to $36 billions, while took tax recoveries up to Rs 2,000 billion,” he added.

He said consensus should be reached on the names of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman until July 5, 2013 by following the decision of Supreme Court (SC). “The opposition will not give name of any biased person having affiliation with any party.”

“We will see how the government works with us in legislation. If the government neglects us, it will have to face difficulties in the Senate in this regard,” he concluded.
