Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that July 5, 1977, will always be remembered as a Black Day in the history of Pakistan when first democratically-elected prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was overthrown by a tinpot military dictator General Zia occupying the country and holding the people hostage.
In a statement on the eve of 5th July, the PPP chief said grains of all evils including Kalashnikov culture, heroin and extremism were planted by the dictator into the society plunging the whole country into a mess. Terrorism of today is rooted in July 5th coup and all those responsible for it are directly or indirectly involved in the horrible conditions our nation is thrown into, he said.
Paying rich tributes to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Bilawal said the visionary leadership of Bhutto Shaheed laid sound foundation of the state of Pakistan and gifted it with the first-ever constitution of consensus. One-man, one-vote, issuing passports to everybody, founding Pakistan steel, heavy mechanical complex, nuclear technology and so many other mega projects for bringing economic activity into motion were among a few achievements that the elected prime minister accomplished in a brief period before being overthrown by the dictatorial forces.
Bilawal Bhutto said the country did not need cosmetic proceedings aimed at playing to the galleries and stressed for action against all the dictators of past without any discrimination.
He said the sacrifices given by the leadership and the workers of Pakistan People’s Party for democracy and rights of the people remain unmatched and every worker and leader of the party reiterates their commitment to the democratic struggle and mission launched by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and carried forward to the next generations by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pledged that his party would never bow before any kind of dictatorship as power rests with people.
