Gujranwala Corps claims Army Firing Competition

The 2013 Army Firing Competition concluded on Wednesday at the Army Firing Range in Jhelum.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said that the highest standard of training and the quest for continuous improvement is the hallmark of any professional army. He urged the commanders to strive for excellence in all fields, with the objective of being the best army in every aspect. He showed complete satisfaction with the standard of shooting skills achieved by the individual soldiers of the Pakistan Army, meeting all the objectives that had been set for the year.
In accordance with the Pakistan Army’s training doctrine, Kayani had declared 2012-13 as the year of firing with the aim of enhancing the firing efficiency of individuals and units. A number of new and innovative steps have been taken to realize this concept including the conduction of firing competitions within the Army with a new format and the latest techniques. An Army Marksmanship Unit has also been established, which is a big step towards the improvement of firing standards for soldiers. A number of improvements in weapons and ammunition have also been introduced.
General Kayani gave away the trophies and medals to the winning team and individual firers. Naib Subedar Latif, Major Noman and Hav Ishtiaq secured the first, second and third place positions respectively in the rifle G-3 match. Lance Naik Shahid Ullah, Naik Azim and Naik Ghulam Mustafa secured first, second and third place in the light machine gun match. The Gujranwala Corps claimed the overall trophy for 2013.
