The installation of more than 300 close circuit television (CCTV) cameras is on the cards ahead of the holy month of Ramazan.
The security devices will further aid the police’s Ramzan contingency plan. Police sources stated that around 150 cameras currently installed in the city were out of order and had to be replaced or repaired immediately for which the administration had devised a robust plan. In addition to the ones being repaired, another 300 CCTV devices would be fitted all around the metropolis, especially sensitive areas such as government building, religious structures and places of worship. The strategy calls for the establishment of a security cell which will monitor all the feeds from the cameras and pass on information and intelligence to the designated police and paramilitary units patrolling the city.
