Govt restores LB system, MQM retorts angrily

The Sindh government has formally restored the Local Government Ordinance 1979 in the province, however, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has rejected the same branding this move by the government as sheer violation of law.

According to the local government department secretary, district councils and municipal corporations have started their function in the province.

Sources confirmed that initially municipal corporations would be established at Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana.

However, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday rejected the restoration of Local Government Ordinance 1979 in Sindh and termed it as violation of laws.

The MQM Rabita Committee held a press conference for showing their reservations over the ancient disputed ordinance.

While talking to local media, Rabita Committee member Kanwar Naveed Jameel said the provincial government had violated the laws after imposing 1979’s ordinance in Sindh.

The MQM leader said restoration of the said ordinance reflected the mindset of feudals and lords.

Jameel alleged the previous municipal government had been given economical powers to run an established setup in cities across the province while the Sindh government wanted to fill their pockets by the decision.

He further said the Sindh government took the powers and authorities back from the local administration which should be considered as serious violation of law.
