The Karachi municipal administration finally went into action against encroachments and land mafia aided by the police and officials from numerous other departments.
Following the directives of Administrator Karachi Municipal Comittee Hashim Raza, the authorities finally got into gear on Tuesday, supervised by Director Land Anti-Encroachment Abdul Malik. Karachi Municipal Committee (KMC) officials stated that Quaidabad Road had been totally cleansed of encroachment and other obstacles considerably easing the traffic flow. The operation later headed for the Chowrangi area where hundreds of cabins, stalls shops illegal parking and barricades were hauled away. The residents of Quaidabad hailed the operation and thanked the government officers for finally cleansing the area of the troublesome obstructions
Accompanied by a heavy contingent of the police, Malik stated that all encroachments in the area had been decimated while other areas would also face the broom very soon. Rejecting rumors, the official said the drive had not witnessed any unpleasant situation or any resistance. Overall the residents of the locality termed the action a massive success. It is pertinent to mention that the Police Department and District Municipal Corporations had cooperated brilliantly; working ‘hand in glove’ to rid the area of encroachments in general and the land mafia in particular The officials further said that the drive was totally impartial and the KMC staff had acted against all encroachers irrespective of all variables. Justifying the action, the municipal administrator stated that traffic flow was subject to the whims of the encroachers and thus it was necessary to raze all such structures to avoid inconvenience in the approaching month of Ramazan.He said that operation against encroachments would continue on any location and land mafia would not be allowed to occupy parks, play grounds or plots allocated for public welfare.
