Squad formed to curb power theft

The Punjab government through a notification on Tuesday constituted an anti-theft squad against electricity, gas and water theft across the province.

According to details, Provincial Secretary Irfan Ali would chair the squad and the heads of concerned departments would be its coordinators.

The squad’s target is to eliminate all electricity theft in factories, industries and commercial plazas in the first three months of its creation.

According to a report, most power theft occurs in Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Nankana, Muridke, Chunian, Pattoki, Manga Mandi, Narang Mandi and Narowal, where people have acquired direct electricity connections and power was stolen on a large scale for agricultural tube wells.

DCOs and police would assist the anti-theft squad and raids would be conducted to arrest the guilty.
