Pakistan’s nuclear assets safe and secure, UN told

Pakistan gives the highest importance to foolproof safety and security to its nuclear programme, Ambassador to the United Nations Masood Khan said while addressing an international conference on nuclear safety on Tuesday.

He said Pakistan’s nuclear materials‚ facilities and assets were safe and secure and pointed out that nuclear security within a state was a fundamental national responsibility and a strategic global priority.

The envoy said over the years‚ Pakistan had worked closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency to strengthen nuclear security.

Khan said there was a robust command‚ control structures and effective regulatory regime in Pakistan to ensure safety and security of its nuclear assets.
