Most Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders tipped as hot favourites for governorships are still clueless as they have not received any information regarding the matter from the authorities concerned.

For instance, Senator Rafiq Rajwana, who has been named a popular choice for Punjab governor in PML-N political circles, revealed that he had no idea if he was becoming the governor, or even being considered for it by the top leadership.

“It would be an honour to become Punjab’s governor. It is a challenging task, especially if you are from south Punjab. I will try to serve the party’s interests to the best of my abilities”, he said.

Likewise, sources revealed that other hot contenders like Jafar Iqbal were not in the loop regarding their slated governorship either.

Political analysts maintained that it would not be astute of the Sharifs to pick an elected person or public representative as Punjab governor.

“A public representative would face more pressure for making a separate South Punjab province. However, the PML-N leadership does not favour this province’s creation,” they maintained.

Mushahidullah, an aspirant for Sindh governor and Zafar Iqbal Jhagra of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa too professed ignorance on the matter of their governorship. They said that if they were being considered, the government would have directly or indirectly let them know by now.

Sources said that PML-N’s top leadership is deliberately withholding this information as a political strategy.
