Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday that the previous rulers only generated profit for themselves, not electricity, during a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq at his residence in Model Town.

“We will salvage the nation from load shedding and fulfill our promises to clear circular debt,” he said, adding that tough decisions would have to be made to resuscitate the economy as circular debt has increased to over Rs 500 billion. The chief minister (CM) maintained that the government would pay it within 60 days.

He stated that it was ironic that both the rich and poor benefited from the subsidy on electricity, whereas the rich had no right to it.

By exploring cheaper sources for generating electricity, the production cost could be lowered, said Shahbaz. He informed that the Punjab government would step up measures against power theft, and a special task force had been formed for this purpose.

He also spoke about the Nandipur Power Project, lamenting that it had been delayed for more than two years due to the previous rulers’ corrupt practices. Now, the project’s estimated cost has risen from 22 billion to 57 billion, he added.

The Punjab government is planning a five year energy policy and it would take all stakeholders into confidence on this matter, he concluded.

  1. These are the real facts and true picture drawn by Mian Shehbaz Sharif about the collections of commissions and not generated power in their previous regime. May I add one more thing that since 1947,no government seriously tried to solve this power problems in Pakistan. We must stop this practice of criticizing the previous regimes and at present the current rulers must do their best to solve this problem.

In America and other civilized countries the current rulers tried to avoid criticize on the performance of previous government, but try to solve the problems, they get in heritance and try to satisfy the common man.Our present politicians must adopt the positive ways. But unluckily in Pakistan when any man is in power, he is worshipped and guided him according to their desires, when this man or ruler is gone away ,he is considered to be the worst man in the history of Pakistan. For Allah`s this rubbish practice must be stopped as nobody will get the benefits in return. Go and rule Pakistan according their manifestos. And try to provide relief to common man.We lost East Pakistan, but India had strong control over Jammu and Kashmir conflict firmly, but we did not learn any lesson from history and are still on the jobs of LEGPULLING and Backbiting AKHER KAB TAK.
