The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has raised power tariff by Rs 1.12 per unit under the fuel adjustment surcharge.
According to a notification issued by NEPRA on Monday, the authority increased the electricity tariff used in the month of May where power production through diesel remained Rs 20.80 while per unit cost through furnace oil remained Rs 16 per unit.
Because of the production cost, the Central Power Purchasing agency (CPPA) requested NEPRA to increase the power tariff by Rs 1.12 per unit which approved by the regulatory body and increased the tariff.
NEPRA officials further said seven billion units were sold to power distribution companies in May therefore consumers had to pay the extra charges for that volume of power provided to them. They said distribution companies would collect Rs 6 billion from the consumers in the bills of December this year.
Officials clarified that this increase will not be implemented on lifeline consumers consuming 50 units per month and consumers of the KESC.
