The advocate general of Punjab (AGP) has started preparing a list of new law officers following the orders of the Supreme Court (SC).
A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Chaudhry, reacted against the performance of law officers in court during last week.
The bench issued a judicial order to the AGP that during prosecution of cases in SC he should be present in court instead of law officers. Judges remarked last week that law officers neither prepare their cases nor come in courts.
Following the orders and directions given by Justice Aijaz Chaudhry, AG sacked 19 law officers including additional and assistant advocate generals from their duties on Saturday.
New law officers will be nominated up to Monday and advocates who played significant role in the lawyers’ movement will be given priority in the new list.
