While claiming successful military action against terrorists in Kurram Agency, security forces on Saturday said that Para Chamkani has been cleared and efforts are underway for repatriation of the displaced families.
“Security forces succeeded in flushing out all militants from Central Kurram Agency,” Colonel Waseem, commandant of Frontier Corps in Kurram Agency, told reporters.
Several journalists visited the area where they were briefed about the recently launched and ongoing military operations against the terrorists.
The commandant said that during the military action security forces succeeded in flushing out the terrorists. Dozens of hideouts have been demolished and as many as 75 terrorists were killed, he added. Foreign terrorists were also among the killed ones.
Col Waseem said that 12 security personnel had embraced martyrdom whereas 88 others have sustained injuries. He also confirmed a number of civilian casualties at the hands of militants.
The commandant said that thousands of families had abandoned their homes and shifted to safer areas. The government has already established two camps for internally displaced persons in Hangu District. However, a majority of the IDPs preferred to stay with relatives or in rented houses in Peshawar, Kohat and other main cities and towns throughout the country.
To a question, the commandant said that atmosphere in Central Kurram Agency was conducive for repatriation of IDPs. In this respect, the commandant said that they planned the repatriation of as many as 10,000 people to Para Chamkani in a few weeks.
