Lok Virsa concert attracts many

The renowned artist Humera Channa gave an outstanding performance in a live concert at Lok Virsa Media Studios at Shakarparian on Friday. The event was organised by the National Institute of Folk & Traditional Heritage, popularly known as Lok Virsa under its popular musical series titled as “Documentation of Genealogical Musical Families of Pakistan”. This is an on-going initiative of Lok Virsa which is attaining popularity among the community of artists. Underlining the importance of the program Lok Virsa’s Executive Director Khalid Javaid informed that his institution launched this musical series in the year 2008 with an objective to encourage youngsters in the families of known folk, classical and semi-classical artists/musicians to continue practicing the art that they inherited from their elders. “It is a humble effort of Lok Virsa not only to pay tribute to the icons of Pakistani musical heritage but also to provide an incentive for their families”, he added. Khalid Javaid also acknowledged the contribution of Royal Norwegian government for supporting Lok Virsa. Humera Channa is a versatile artist. She remained a popular playback singer in the film industry of Pakistan. She has sung many songs for Urdu and Punjabi films. Humera in fact was discovered as a substitute for Naheed Akhtar in the 80s for the Pakistan film industry. After decline of the industry, Humera established herself as a popular concert artist. She can sing Sindhi, Punjabi, Seraiki and Urdu Ghazals. The live concert on traditional seating on carpets was attended by a large number of people from different walks of life including music connoisseurs, intellectuals, artists, and general public.
