Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that there was a vast scope of generation of energy from biogas in Punjab and the provincial government was evolving a comprehensive policy under which biogas plants would be set up in villages while efforts were also being made for operating tube wells with biogas.
The CM was presiding over a briefing meeting on biogas plants at Model Town on Friday. Provincial Minister for Energy Chaudhary Sher Ali Khan, Special Assistant Arshad Jutt, Planning & Development Department chairman and experts were present on the ocassion.
Shahbaz directed that a comprehensive plan be presented immediately for setting up biogas plants so that it could be implemented as early as possible because energy crisis has caused an irreparable loss to the agriculture sector.
Shahbaz said that Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) government was taking various measures for providing relief to the small cultivators. He said that a programme has also been chalked out for providing solar energy operated tube-wells to small farmers. He said that a practicable project would be evolved regarding establishment of biogas plants as the government wanted to provide this facility to maximum number of small farmers while subsidy would also be provided by the government for this purpose.
The Chief Minister was given a detailed briefing by the experts of Pakistan Domestic Biogas Programme and Agriculture University Faisalabad on biogas plants.
