Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon on Thursday blasted the incidents of extortion which, he said, were continuing unabated for the last 25 years.

Memon said this while speaking at a post-budget debate at the Sindh Assembly. The business community of the city was helpless and being bullied day and night into paying the extortionists, he added.

He reminded the House of May 12 incident when, he said, citizens were ‘hunted like animals’. He blamed the judiciary saying the chief justice was ‘himself a witness to the massacre’.

He paid tributes to the personalities of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) who lost their lives on that fateful day. The PPP government was well aware of the problems the city was facing and it was working day in and day out to eliminate the menace of terrorism, he remarked.

He cited the arrest of Wali Babar’s killers as evidence of his claim. Memon also informed that miscreants were being arrested everyday as the law enforcement agencies were cooperating with the government in all fields.
