The Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has frozen all accounts of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on charges of it being a tax defaulter.
Sources said the PIA had defaulted on taxes worth Rs 3 billion, therefore the FBR froze all its accounts.
It would now be hard for the national carrier to issue salaries to its employees on time, the sources said, adding that the PIA would also face difficulties in paying oil companies and spare parts companies.
A PIA spokesman said measures were being taken for the restoration of the accounts. He said he was optimistic that the airlines’ operations would not be affected.
