Balochistan Assembly members on Friday expressed concern over the plight of the minority community in various parts of the province.

“Incidents of kidnapping for ransom and other serious issues have forced hundreds of minority families to migrate to Pashtun areas such as Lorali and other safer places,” legislators said during an assembly session.

According to details, Sarfaraz Bugti, Obaid Babat and Santosh Kumar drew the attention of the leader of the House towards the issues faced by the members of minority groups.

They called for concrete steps to be taken for the protection of their lives and property in Balochistan.

Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch assured the House that the government was committed to protecting the rights of minority groups and other citizens.

“All-out efforts will be made to ensure protection to the lives and property of the public at all cost,” he said.

Dr Malik noted that 14 doctors were dismissed from services in Chaman for their absence from the duties, adding that local administration of Mastung and Kalat had been asked to check the presence of doctors at hospitals and submit a detailed report to him.

Baloch said that the performance of the institutions would be improved through introduction of reforms and strengthening system of check and balance.

“Government employees should ensure their presence at workplaces otherwise they would be dealt with strictly,” Dr Malik warned.

Earlier, House approved Amendment Bill 2013 for Balochistan Service Tribunal presented by the chief minister.
